Nursery

The nursery provides a wide variety of stimulating activities for the children ranging from junk modelling and painting to simple cooking and mini beast hunts in the garden.

The children enjoy planned activities and those they have initiated themselves. The day is made up of music / singing, story time, indoor and outdoor play using the wide variety of nursery resources. We also enjoy art weeks which are held regularly over the nursery year.

Staff record and monitor each child’s progress by collecting evidence to produce a portfolio of what the children have achieved and experienced during their time at Sceptre Nursery. Observations and photographs of the children are key to this portfolio which is given to the parents when the portfolio is completed. These are maintained by each child’s individual key worker.

The nursery aims to demonstrate, through activities, a respect for all ethnic origins / racial groups, genders, religions, cultures, linguistic backgrounds and abilities. Children of both sexes are positively encouraged by staff to participate in all nursery activities.

The children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace and the child’s happiness and welfare comes first at all times. The nursery work hard to develop strong links with parents and careers.

The children are divided into three age bands: Seahorses Aged 0-2, Starfish Aged 2-3 and Dolphins Aged 3-4.

Each group has their own area of the nursery, specifically designed and equipped to meet their needs. The children are supported by their key workers who are experienced, qualified nursery nurses. As with outdoor play, the children have the choice of a very wide range of toys, resources, craft materials and activities. Through play, each child is encouraged to try new activities, build friendships, be creative, play co-operatively, develop independence and express themselves with confidence.

Dolphin

DOLPHIN age 3-4

The Dolphins are the oldest group within the nursery and these children are encouraged to undertake the skills and experiences necessary to prepare them for their move into the respective primary school environment (dress and undress independently and manage their own personal hygiene). They will play and interact with our Starfish children within the indoor and outdoor play areas and aspire to the guidance set for their areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. They are encouraged to operate independently within the environment and show confidence in linking up with others for support and guidance.

Parent/Carer evenings are held annually with the children’s nominated key worker where you can see their files and discuss how they are getting on and discuss any topics relevant to your own child.

Starfish

STARFISH age 2-3

Once our children reach the dizzy heights of 2 years, they then move up into the BIG room in the nursery alongside the Dolphins. This will encourage the children to interact positively with children within an older age group. The babies also gain more space from the busier 2+ year olds and the Starfish children participate in more hands-on activities and interactive skills. There is also a computer set up in this area for their sole use and they are encouraged to utilise their IT skills. Children are encouraged to nurture their social skills and seek to do things for themselves.

Parent/Carer evenings are held annually with the children’s nominated key worker where you can see their files and discuss how they are settling in to the larger area within the nursery.

Nappies and Wipes: – Whilst at nursery, we ask that you supply nappies for your children. Wipes are supplied by the nursery at no extra cost.

Seahorses Image

SEAHORSE aged 0-2

The baby area has been created with a great deal of careful thought and consideration for the health and safety of the children trusted to our care being the most important criteria. The result is a safe, welcoming, fantastically equipped and cheerful environment where your child will feel cherished. He or she will be cared for by qualified nursery nurses who possess the special skill and affection required when working with very young children and babies.

Our under 2’s have access to the soft play area outdoors which is totally secure and allows our youngest children to crawl, toddle and wobble in safety and, as they find their feet, explore the surroundings or whiz around on the sit and ride toys.

Your Child’s Routine: At Sceptre Nursery we recognise the importance of maintaining the routine you have established with your child at home. As such, each parent is fully consulted about their own child’s individual sleeping patterns, likes and dislikes, habits, etc. Each day you will be informed about your child’s day: how much they’ve slept, at what time, what they’ve eaten, developments, etc.
